The sum insured should represent the re-build value of the property and not the re-sale. The only exact way to know is to instruct a surveyor. Alternatively we can quote for a "bedroom rated" sum insured, which would provide cover up to a maximum amount.
Do I have to specify personal possessions separately? Back to top | Get quote
Within the contents section of the policy you will be allocated a percentage for personal possessions / valuables, however if the particular item(s) is of sentimental or high value we would suggest that you specify those items and retain a valuation which is no more than three years old.

You will receive a discount (usually between 5-10%) if you combine both buildings and contents cover. This will also provide you with one common renewal date and one point of contact for any policy / claim matters.
What about my possessions when outside of the home? Back to top | Get quote
If you require cover for any item whilst outside of the home you must take specified "all risks" cover per item to be insured.

Most policies will provide an element of contents cover for students whilst living away from home. Always check with the insurer / broker first and take our separate arrangements for high value items.
What is meant by "new for old" and "accidental damage"? Back to top | Get quote
It is not always possible to replace an old item (TV) with a like-for-like replacement. Therefore in the event of a legitimate claim your insurer will replace your old item with a similar model new one. Accidental damage cover is an optional extension to both buildings and contents cover.
At Christmas time my contents sum insured will be higher than at any other time? Back to top | Get quote
You do not need to worry; most policies will automatically include a seasonal increase in the contents sum insured of between 10 and 25%.
